The physical traces at the Socorro landing site are often described as the strongest part of the 1964 Lonnie Zamora case. That is broadly correct, but only up to a point. The burned vegetation and ground impressions gave investigators independent evidence that something unusual had disturbed the site shortly before Zamora’s report. They supported important parts of his description and made the incident harder to dismiss as a simple invention. What they did not do was identify what caused the traces, prove that a craft had landed, or demonstrate any advanced or extraterrestrial technology. Third, the traces were compatible with more than one explanation.
