Introduction
Many of the UFO reports associated with Area 51 were probably not encounters with anything extraterrestrial at all. The U-2 and A-12 Sightings
The first major wave of sightings linked to Area 51 began with the U-2 reconnaissance aircraft in the mid-1950s. Why Area 51 Became a UFO Magnet

Which Reports Remain Unresolved?
The secret-aircraft explanation accounts for many Area 51-related UFO reports, but it does not automatically explain every sighting ever reported in Nevada.
Some reports lack enough information to determine what was observed. Others involve descriptions that do not clearly match known aircraft, weather phenomena, astronomical objects or military activity.
