Introduction
The most unusual physical feature in the 1971 Delphos, Kansas, landing-ring case was not the reported object but the soil itself. Investigators found that soil from the pale ring resisted wetting: water tended to bead on the surface, and some samples reportedly floated or remained difficult to soak even years later. Subsequent laboratory work did not identify an exotic substance, but it did find evidence of a coating on the soil particles that could explain the water-repellent behaviour.
